ABS: Anti-Lock Braking System

What is an Anti-Lock Braking System?

The  (ABS) Anti-Lock Braking System is a computer module on your ABS Pump that enables improved control of your vehicle in case of an abrupt stop. The ABS operation is available from approx. 5 Kph to the maximum vehicle speed.

An ABS warning light on your dash means a problem has been detected, and the system needs to be  scanned for codes in order find out what area the fault is. With the light on,  ABS operation may not be present, but normal braking may be. As with your ECU and Airbag modules, When your ABS module becomes faulty in your vehicle and you take it to a main dealer, the best they can do is to replace it, this also can cost you vasts amount of money in most cases as they can be very expensive to replace.

Anti-Lock Brake Repairs

At Mastertech we specialise in Anti-Lock braking systems repairs and programming. Your vehicles ABS system or traction control system is designed to give you additional safety under hard braking and in wet or damp conditions. The vehicle is fitted with an ABS pump and an ABS module. In the event your vehicle’s wheels lock up under severe braking the ABS Control Unit will identify this through a wheel speed sensor and reduce or release the braking effort temporarily. This allows the tyre to regain traction with the road surface and apply braking effort.

In the event of an ABS failure or an ABS problem your ABS warning light will illuminate and in some vehicles an ABS warning message will appear on the dashboard such as Anti lock Brake Malfunction or DSC Malfunction. ABS difficulties can arise due to the ABS pump itself or an associated component. Each wheel is fitted with a wheel speed sensor which calculates the wheel speed and transmits this information to the ABS control unit which in turn activates the ABS pump and adjusts the braking effort for each wheel. In order to carry out an accurate ABS test the vehicle must be placed on a live data stream and evaluated by a qualified technician with ABS experience.

Here at Mastertech we carry out a road test on your vehicle or simulated road test in order to evaluate the vehicles ABS fault and pinpoint the required repair. The vehicle is connected to a live data stream and evaluated by a qualified ABS Specialist. We take this approach to avoid additional costs and incorrect diagnosis. Replacement ABS control modules and replacement ABS pumps can be costly. A simple wheel speed sensor can rectify the issue at times thus avoiding the cost of the replacement ABS unit.

In the event your vehicle requires an ABS Module repair, Mastertech can repair your unit saving money and vehicle down time. We can repair a wide range of ABS Units and carry parts for most makes and models

SRS: Airbag

The SRS Airbag Control Module is a small computer module in your vehicle that determines when to deploy your airbags in the event of an accident. It extracts data from multiple crash sensors around the vehicle and decides if the crash impact warranties a deployment of the airbags.

When your Air bag light or SRS warning light is staying on this indicates a fault with your SRS Airbag system.

Whilst the light is on the SRS system is in an inoperative state and requires Testing to rectify faults.

Don't put your life and passengers life at risk in the event of an accident with a inoperative SRS system

We are able to fully diagnose faults with your Airbag SRS system, and are able to repair the problem using the most advanced equipment available and covering all makes/models of vehicle. We trace the faults down to the source, whether this be corroded wiring faults and bad connections or SRS unit failures, we will effect only the necessary and best repair.

Many vehicles are particularly prone to certain faults, and through our many years of diagnosing these problems, we have come to learn a thing or two and know where to look. With a mass of technical experience and broad range of testing equipment we are confident that we can quickly identify even the most complex and involved SRS fault.

We can also provide SRS module Crash Data Reseting service programming and coding for most types of SRS module.

B.C.M. Body Control Module

If your car is having electrical problems it could be a fault with your body control module! we can help. Our technicians can check your entire electrical system using Specialist Scan Tools loaded with data on the latest models to read fault codes and live data. We can

E.S.P. (Electronic Stability Program)

Mastertech, can diagnose and perform repairs on your car's  traction control system.

Other names for ESP

ESP has a wide variety of marketing names used by different vehicle manufacturers for what is essentially the same function, which is potentially confusing for consumers. ESP names include:

  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC) - Holden, HSV, Jeep
  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP) - Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes Benz, Renault, Chrysler, Citroen, Dodge, Skoda, Peugeot, Suzuki Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) - Ford, FPV, BMW, Mazda, Land Rover, Aston Martin, Jaguar
  • Vehicle Dynamic Integrated Management (VDIM) - Toyota (also Vehicle Stability Control), Lexus
  • How stability control works

Components

ESP builds on the ABS brakes and traction control components already installed into a vehicle. It uses the wheel speed sensors and the ability to apply brake pressure to individual wheels but adds steering angle and vehicle direction sensors. Some more advanced systems also have body roll sensors.

Function

ESP continuously compares the driver's steering wheel position to the direction of travel of the vehicle. When the control unit detects a difference, ESP operates by independently applying the brakes to individual wheels. In some cases, it will reduce the engine power as well. ESP helps the driver to maintain control of the vehicle.

Some ESP systems will intervene sooner than others. In other vehicles the driver can switch the system off - Mastertech does not recommend this.

Whether you have an intermittent problem or a traction control warning engine light has come on, we can help. Our technicians can check your entire esp traction control system using  special scan tools loaded with information on the latest models to read fault codes and live data to assist in accurately Diagnosing your car fixing it right first time!

All ESP componentry can be checked such as: ESP Computer, Yaw rate & lateral sensors, wheel speed sensors, body roll sensors

We use only quality replacement components from recognised leaders in the industry.

We can come to you and diagnose and repair any problem you may have with your traction control system at a time and place you choose.

All work comes with our 12 month/20,000 km warranty.
